Active | 27 May 1968 – 1994 |
Nickname | CFS Carp |
Motto | Communicare et protegere |
Canadian Forces Station Carp was authorized in 1968 by redesignating the Experimental Army Signal Establishment[1]. Allocated to Canadian Forces Headquarters and assigned to DOPS, CFS Carp included the receiver site at Carp and the transmitter site at Richardson. CFS Carp was responsible for the site less communication facilities which were provided by 701 Communication Squadron.
CFS Carp was to provide the administration, security and housekeeping services needed to maintain a constant state of operational readiness for all sites under its command; most importantly, the communication facilities at Carp, Richardson, Almonte and Dunrobin. It also administered support services to terminal stations at Renfrew, Arnprior, Carleton Place, Smith Falls and Kemptville. The NATO Satellite Ground Terminal and some elements of the Canadian Emergency Measures Organization at Carp also fell under its operational command.
CFS Carp was reassigned to Canadian Forces Communication Command in 1970[2].
On 1 July 1971 CFS Carp was disbanded[3] but it was quickly reformed again in 1972 by renaming/amalgamating with 701 Communication Squadron[4] whereby it was given an increased operational emphasis on providing strategic communications for the Canadian Forces.
The site was decommissioned in 1994 and the unit was officially disbanded in 1995[5].
